Hawk Heritage Interview with Micah Clements
Age: 14
Grade: 8th
Favorite Food: Chow Mein
Favorite Hobby: Youtubing/Editing Videos
Role Model: Bill Gates

HH: How have you seen yourself grow this year?

MC: “I've seen myself grow this year socially and academically. The part that has been the most fun about being at Horizon Christian is that I can connect with a lot of people including my teachers.

HH: What's been the most fun about being at Horizon?

MC: “The friends I’ve made at Horizon are amazing. I feel like they always have my back. I love how no one is ever left out, and everyone is always included. Once I got the feel for a smaller school and saw the personal connection difference between private and public, I actually realized that I can make a big difference that is impacting.”

HH: Why did you want to be ASB President?

MC: “I wanted to be ASB president because I saw things, from an outsider's perspective that could make Horizon better. Seeing how they have been improved now, and watching the school blossom is amazing. At first I thought becoming president would make me the bad guy. But to be honest I was still in the public school mindset. Here, I haven't been neglected, I have been accepted!”

HH: What do you love most about middle school?

MC: “Middle school is a fun couple years. I love being the big kid at school (8th grade) and watching as others grow. Being here with friends and having so much fun together is very exciting.”

HH: What is the best part about an ordinary day at Horizon Christian?

MC: "The best part at this middle school is that we get to learn about God and dive deeper into His practices with Bible class. Not having to worry about talking about your relationship with Christ is amazing. I love our great middle school teachers. It is usually easy to find just one teacher that is your favorite, but to be honest, it is so hard and there is like a 6 way tie!”

Farewell to Beloved Vice Principal, Susan Olson

June 08, 2016
By District

After 10 years of faithful and fruitful service, Susan Olson will be leaving her post as Vice Principal of Horizon Christian Middle School. For years, Susan has focused on the needs of others. Now she will focus on her health, well being and Gods plan for her.

We love and respect Susan Olson. A hard working, honest, patient, loving and responsible follower of Jesus. She has not only made our school better but all of her colleagues as well.

When Susan became the Vice Principal in 2010, she began layering new activities, plans, systems and opportunities on to her plate.  An incomplete list of what she has done include: the fall middle school retreat, the Washington DC trip, outdoor school, social events for middle schoolers, school photography, scheduling for all middle school students, teacher/specialist scheduling, Ren Web support, the MAP test scheduling, security problem solving, the 4 T trail, and 8th grade promotion. In addition, all the counseling and discipline, the teacher meetings, parent conferences, letter writing, emergency subbing, car line, middle school chapel organization and school wide problem solving. Susan has accomplished so much, all with an air of serenity and calm. She leaves a gaping hole on our staff which is only surpassed by the gaping hole in our hearts.

This amazing woman will be sorely missed

You have been a champion employee during your time here at Horizon. Excellence, faithfulness and loyalty are just a few of your wonderful attributes. We at Horizon love you and will always be thankful for your tremendous contribution. We wish you the best.

In Christ's love,
Pastor Stan Russell

Earlier this month Legacy Health awarded Steve Mager Coach of the Year, presented by Legacy and the Portland Trail Blazers. Steve just finished his third season as the Horizon Christian Middle School Head Girls Basketball Coach at HCMS. In partnership with his assistant coach, Dave Smith, they have built the girls' teams into a thriving competitive program. Coaches Mager and Smith inspire and support each girl with coaching fundamentals and team building exercises in preparation for next season when the team will be competitive in the Metro Christian League.

Legacy Health has generously donated $1,000 to our program! Thank you Coach for pouring your heart into leading our young athletes with excellence and integrity.
